Russian cement industry in 2019

In 2019, 57.6 Mt of cement were produced in Russia. Cement was produced by 10 corporations, 51 cement plants, 3 grinding and mixing plants. Clinker in 2019 was produced on 30 dry process kilns, 107 wet process kilns and 3 kilns of the combined production method. About 60% of products were produced with energy-saving technologies, 2% more than in 2018, and 1.6 times more than 5 years ago. The 5 largest cement producers account for more than 60% of production. The 10 largest companies control almost 86% of the cement market (excluding imports and exports). 1.0 Mt of cement were shipped outside Russia in 2019, 1.4 Mt were imported into the country. In the beginning of the 2nd quarter of 2020, cement consumption began to decline due to the global economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It should be expected that it will drop significantly in 2020–2021 compared with the level of 2019. The recovery of the market may take several years.
