Devki Group to Build Cement Plant with 3 Mtpa Clinker Capacity in Kenya
Kenyan President William Ruto has officially launched construction of a new cement and clinker plant by Devki Group in Ngaaie, Kitui County. The project represents an investment of KSh 70 billion and will be the first cement plant in the county.
The facility will have an annual clinker production capacity of 3 million tonnes. Once operational, it will bring Devki Group’s total production capacity to 9.2 million tonnes per year. The plant will use locally available limestone deposits to produce clinker, the main raw material for cement manufacturing.
Construction is expected to create around 4,000 jobs. The plant is scheduled to begin operations in August 2027 and is expected to employ more than 3,000 people once operational.
The project comes amid growing cement production and consumption in Kenya. According to figures reported by Business Daily, domestic cement consumption rose by 20.3 % in 2025 to 10.28 million tonnes. Further demand is expected from infrastructure developments, including the proposed Dangote oil refinery in Lamu and port infrastructure expansion.
The new facility is expected to strengthen Devki Group’s position in the East African cement market and intensify competition among major regional producers.
