India’s JK Lakshmi Cement has commenced construction of the Project Kamakshi integrated cement plant in Assam, India. The total investment, including the acquisition of mining rights, is estimated at INR 110 billion.
The facility will have an annual cement production capacity of 2.5 million tonnes and a clinker production capacity of 1 million tonnes. The project also includes the construction of dedicated railway infrastructure to support logistics. Completion is scheduled for the 2029 financial year.
According to the company, the project is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs, improve the reliability of cement supplies to northeastern India and reduce the region’s dependence on products transported from more distant states. The plant will be JK Lakshmi Cement’s first production facility in the northeastern part of the country.
