LafargeHolcim: "Cement plants have the potential to become the largest waste processors in the world"
Director of Corporate Relations Vitaly Bogachenko believes that "cement plants have the potential to become the largest waste processors in the world. Currently, the percentage of replacement of natural fuels with alternative fuels in the EU is over 40 %.
54 thousand tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) residues were disposed of at the Lafarge Holсim cement plant in the Kaluga Region last year. 10 % substitution of natural fuel provides reduction of CO2 emissions up to 20 kg per ton of cement. If the energy recycling technology is used at all cement plants in Russia (52), the country will be able to dispose of about 13 million tons of waste."
According to the corporate press service, such a statement was made by the representative of LafargeHolcim in Russia at the Visionaries conference in Moscow, where the possibilities and advantages of energy utilization of MSW residues in cement production were discussed.
LafargeHolcim's business is represented in four segments: production of cement, ready-mixed concrete, extraction of non-metallic materials and creation of products and solutions for the construction industry.
LafargeHolcim in Russia operates four cement plants, as well as three quarries for the extraction of non-metallic materials. LafargeHolcim products are used in the production of ready-mixed concrete, precast concrete, light concrete products, in infrastructure construction.
