Sampyo uses AI for plant monitoring

Sampyo Cement is expanding the use of artificial intelligence at its Samcheok plant in South Korea to automate parts of the production control process.

The AI system analyses operating parameters and assists operators in controlling the kiln process. Monitors display kiln flame, pressure and current readings. AI handles part of the basic control functions, while operators retain responsibility for abnormal situations and final decisions.

AI implementation allows operators to leave the central control room and carry out inspections on the shop floor using tablets, reducing their workload.

Sampyo Cement plans to expand AI applications across the plant. The technology is also intended to help address the shortage of skilled workers. The company currently has no plans to reduce staff as a result of AI adoption.
