International Finance Corporation (IFC), World Bank Group. Municipal solid waste and the cement industry of Russia
The problems of municipal solid waste (MSW) treatment in Russia are discussed. The results of the study and suggestions from IFC (World Bank Group) on how to develop the market potential of MSW are described. Now the country recycles only 5—7 % of the amount produced. One of the promising methods of recycling MSW is the production of solid fuel from waste (refuse derived fuel — RDF) whose use in cement production offers certain advantages over other options. The article describes the steps necessary for a wider use of RDF in the cement industry.Section: Waste utilization |
