The current situation and prospects for the cement industry in Germany

The situation in the construction sector and cement industry in Germany, and their prospects of development are described. Data on the structure of the German cement market, its export and import geography are presented. It is expected that in 2011 the domestic cement market will be about 27.2 Mt — about 10% more than in 2010, and production will reach ca. 33 Mt, close to the pre-crisis levels of 2006–2008. Provided there is sustained economic growth, the relatively high level achieved in 2011 may be sustained in the future, but it can be shaken by the risk factors still threatening the economic development in general.
