Dealing with chalk - get out of the wet?

Various methods and their classification variants are considered for Portland cement clinker manufacture based on chalk as the raw material. Possibilities of the wet and semiwet methods for chalky raw material processing are discussed. The article presents the author’s views on the reasonable strategy of optimum technology selection when using chalk as the basic raw material as applied to Russia. In his opinion, conversion to the dry process does not offer any technological advantages in comparison with modern variants of the semiwet process
