Features and problems of cement transportation by rail and road

The data concerning volumes of transportation of cement in Russia by rail, by road, average transportation distances, railroad rates were presented and analyzed. The specific character of the rail and road transport and the existing problems were discussed. The volumes of cement transportation by rail are significantly lower than the pre-crisis values so far. It is predicted that in coming years the weighted average distance of the cement shipping by rail will remain within 600-700 km. The average share of the road shipment from the cement plants in Russia increased by 30% in 2007 to 34% in 2009-2010.
