CaspiCement: production of cement in the steppe

HeidelbergCement Group has been operating in Kazakhstan since 2005 - the date of purchase of the Bukhtarma Co. cement plant. According to its own sales and marketing dept., at the moment HeidelbergCement accounts for 20% of the domestic cement market. The new plant of the group, called CaspiCement, is near Shetpe village in Mangistau region, 170 km from Aktau - one of the major cities in Western Kazakhstan and the main sea port on the Caspian Sea. The plant was built 6 km away from the main railway that connects it to all parts of the country, allowing the supply of cement by rail. The factory supplies Northern and Western Kazakhstan mainly, but lately has also begun shipping cement to the capital - Astana, where rapid construction and infrastructure development unfolded in preparation for the International specialized exhibition Astana EXPO-2017.
