Experience of using petrographic analysis of clinker at OAO Teploozersky cement plant

The article describes the use of automated petrographic analysis method at OAO Teploozersky cement plant. The results of petrographic analysis give an idea of the processes in the furnace. By the degree of crystallization, the distribution of clinker minerals and pores, size and shape of the grains one can judge about the characteristics of firing conditions, the location of temperature zones in the kiln, quality of the flame and preparation of raw materials, clinker cooling, etc. The collected results of the statistics analysis together with the practical experience of the operator allows to control the firing process to achieve the desired results in a more meaningful and purposeful way.
