Ecology and safety. Topical collection

Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union in recent years have paid increasing attention to environmental and industrial safety. Thus, Russian legislation provides for measures to reduce the negative impact of business on the environment, and the influence of cement plants is defined as significant. It is planned to change gradually the system of standards and increase the fee for exceeding them manyfold, to promote the best available technologies, to introduce a system of integrated environmental permits, etc. Also new legislation is being drafted in this respect.
The cement producers now face the task to meet the new requirements, which can be addressed only through the use of modern equipment and materials. In many cases, a substantial upgrade of the parts of the current production process chain will be needed.
The cement industry is virtually waste-free and, at the same time, it can play a significant positive role in the use of waste from other industries.
In this issue we have a special section on “Ecology and safety”. It provides information on industrial systems of cleaning gases of dust and toxic components, aspiration air dedusting and the elements of such systems; on gas cooling installations; materials for dust filtration; dust reduction during unloading and overturning of materials; mobile and stationary vacuum dust cleaning systems; equipment for preparation, transportation, storage and metering of alternative fuels; explosion protection systems.
