Cement industry in South East Asia countries

The article provides the analysis of situation in the South East Asia cement market and gives long term forecost of its development. South East Asian volumes increased by 58% between 2006 and 2014. There has been a big overcapacity in region since the end of 1990ths which increased in 2014—2016. In additional to an increased level of competition, the fall in commodity prices and the strength of the US dollar have negatively impacted currencies (notably Indonesia and Malaysia). However, looking at the long term prospects South East Asia is one of the regions with best growth potential in the world. The population growth is very high and cement consumption per capita is very low (large infrastructure needs). We would expect the South East Asian cement consumption to grow from c. 200Mt today to over 400Mt.
