Refractory materials for operation in high alkaline conditions.

Factors affecting the lining of the preparation zone and the externals of cement rotary kilns are considered, among which the effect of alkali oxides is highlighted, which results in the so-called "alkaline cracking" of aluminosilicate refractories. Methods of testing for alkali resistance are described. With these methods, the effect of the refractory material composition and additives on its stability in alkaline environment has been determined, a number of refractories and concretes have been chosen and recommended for use. The tests showed a higher stability and expediency of using innovative refractories under conditions of high alkaline load.
