Experience with pervious concrete pavements in Germany – new developments and applications.

Pervious concrete is a porous concrete paving material which permits rain and storm water runoff to percolate through it rather than flood surrounding areas or storm drains. While percolation is of high interest for road shoulder stabilization, the focus has been on noise abatement in recent years. This paper will deal with various applications of pervious concrete pavement structures. It will give a general overview about the different types of porous concrete systems as well as standard specifications and technical guidelines. The development and experience of the last 25 years with different pervious concrete pavements in Germany is outlined.
