Implementation of road building technologies using cement concrete pavement in Russia
The share of cement concrete paved roads in Russia is less than 0.1% from the total length of road networks in the country. The benefits of such roads include lower operating costs vs. asphalt concrete pavements (with comparable capital costs) and, as a consequence, significantly lower life cycle costs in the long run. In addition, these pavements do not require bitumen, the production volumes of which in the coming years will not suffice to meet the needs of road construction. These advantages determine the expediency of accelerated expansion of cement concrete roads, but for their expedited development there are a number of barriers that need to be overcome.Author: S.S.
