"Green" cement in the Russian market

The emerging global trend of making the construction industry "greener" is posing new challenges to manufacturers of building materials, as they need to invest in the development of new technological solutions for more environmentally friendly production, to change their routine processes, and to revise existing standards. Being a part of a worldwide group of companies and following its internal principles, the representative office of HeidelbergCement in Russia has over 10 years of experience in implementing environmentally friendly technical solutions in the Russian cement industry.
The challenge for HeidelbergCement as a cement producer was to overcome the skepticism of the Russian market regarding cements with mineral additives – more environmentally friendly, durable and having a number of advantages over additive-free cements by a number of indicators. Cements with additives types were widely used in the USSR, but became much less popular after the 1990s.
Thanks to the work of the production and sales departments, technical support and loyal, trusting relationships with the customers, HeidelbergCement managed to increase the production of blended types of cements by 2.3 times over the 10 years of its strategy. The technical parameters and examples of applications given in the article show that in some cases blended cements are a better solution than additive-free cements in terms of the range of possibilities offered by their use.
