Metallurgical slags as a mineral additive in cement production
In order to reduce the carbon factor a lot of mineral additives are used in cements, which often leads to a sharp fall in its strength. Active (granulated blast furnace slag, pozzolans, ash) or inert (limestone) minerals are usually used as additives. This work showed the principal possibility of using crystallized steel refining slags containing a signifi-cant amount of hydraulically active phases, calcium aluminates and silicates, as a reaction-active min-eral additive improving physical and mechanical properties of cement.
