Russian cement industry in 2022

The article reviews the Russian cement industry in 2022. All indicators are given according to the reporting data of cement enterprises and Rosstat. The volume of cement production amounted to 60.8 million tons, which is up by 1.1 million tons, or 1.8 % YoY. The new dry-process and semi-wet-process production lines were mastered. Both production processes account for 58.4 % (down by 0.26 pp YoY) of the total cement production volume, while wet process production — traditional for Russia — delivered 1.4 times less cement in the country. The share of dry process production was down by 0.7 pp. Cement clinker output in 2022 increased by 873 thou. tons (reaching 54.7 million tons). Cement consumption increased by 4.1 % (up to 62.0 million tons). In 2022 the European part of Russia consumed 47.1 million tons of cement or 75.9 % of total amount. The Russian construction industry this year used about 2.16 million tons of cement imported from other countries.  The cost of production and sales of 1 ton of cement this year grew by RUB 210.77, or 5.5 % (reaching RUB 4,042.91) vs 2021. The industry average selling price of cement in every month of 2022 was higher than ib the corresponding month of 2021. In 2022, about 15.5 billion rubles were invested into CAPEx in the Russian cement industry. According to Rosstat, the production capacity of Russian enterprises at the beginning of 2022 was 102.4 million tons of cement. According to estimates, the average hourly productivity of the main process equipment of the industry in 2022 increased, amounting to: 87.5 t/h for rotary kilns; 115.9 t/h for raw mills; 58.0 t/h for cement mills. The industry average utilization factor of the operating time of the equipment also increased: for kilns - up to 62.3 %; for raw and cement mills – up to 56.0 and 48.0 %, respectively. in 2022, the average number of employees in the industry as a whole increased by 1,075 people, or 4.2 %, to 26,820 people.
