Ultra High Performance Concrete — transiting fast from research to applications

In the course of the last three decades, the deeper understanding of concrete science on the one hand and innovative studies and research to overcome the fundamental strength and durability deficiencies of concrete on the other pushed up the conventional concrete to the level of Ultra High Performance Concrete. Though the superior performance of this new concrete formulation has been established convincingly through scores of experimental structures, the construction industry is yet to exploit its full potential. The present paper attempts to track the technological facets of this innovation, the present status of making and using this concrete, and the road ahead for exploiting it more comprehensively.
