Wollastonite and its use in cement production
Wollastonite, with its acicular structure, being either an industrial by-product or a natural mineral, can be used as a reinforcing additive in concrete products, giving them a number of improved consumer properties, including strength, frost resistance, no shrinkage, durability, etc. Wollastonite is a large-tonnage by-product (for example, in the production of boric acid or in the processing of aluminum raw materials using promising alkaline processes), and its introduction as an additive into concrete composite materials can be most justified, since it improves the quality of concrete, and the disposal of wollastonite has a positive effect on the environment and safety for humans in the course of their activities. Most studies show that the maximum cumulative effect is achieved by adding wollastonite in an amount of 7–15 % by weight of the other components of the concrete composite material.Author: V.A.Lipin, E.D.Sofronova |
