The transport corridors in Africa and their significance in cement distribution
Africa transport corridors play a crucial role in enhancing the distribution of cement across the continent. Movements of goods and services across Africa are facilitated through the routes that run from entry ports to the landlocked regions known as transport corridors. There are nine main transport corridors with a total length of 59,100 km that are structured to support the transport and logistics in the African continent. This article provides information on cement distribution network in Africa, with special attention paid to routes and modes of transport. The article explores the types and volumes of cement sold, the percentage of cement imported versus manufactured in Africa, the challenges related to transporting cement, and the regulatory and border crossing issues. Investments in upgrading and maintaining road networks to reduce transportation delays and vehicle breakdowns and to develop and rehabilitate rail lines are important for cement trade improvement.
