Towards zero CO2 emissions: renewable energy, alternative fuels and advanced technologies

The Indian company Prism Johnson Limited (PJL) has accelerated efforts in reducing PJL carbon footprint. In line with GCCA road map of net zero by 2050, PJL has adopted the following: clinker substitution, fossil fuel reduction and increase of alternative fuel, investment in technology and the novel scientific development in cement.
PJL has formulated its short term roadmap to meet and go beyond the GHG intensity reduction. At present PJL has reached to 20 % TSR limit in its Line-2 unit. The short term roadmap involves pushing up alternative fuel capability utilization with pyro system upgradation including adoption of implementation of advanced AF combustion systems and installation of alkali bypass system. The plant is working in R & D with other stakeholder to develop and implement green hydrogen and LC3 cement.
This paper discusses PJL’s implemented measures towards achieving its net zero ambition and its accelerated roadmap to reach this goal. PJL suggests to recognize the potential of carbon sequestration by plantation as a vital lever in regions with prolonged sunlight exposure.
