Key factors for improving clinker grinding efficiency and cement quality: an overview

Cement grinding is the final and most energyintensive stage in cement production, accounting for 30–40 % of total electrical energy consumption in a typical cement plant.

As global pressure mounts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency, innovations in cement grinding have gained prominence. The main goal of the grinding process is to reduce clinker and additive particles to a fine powder, enhancing their surface area to facilitate chemical reactions during hydration. However, the intricacies extend far beyond fineness alone. Particle size distribution (PSD), grinding efficiency and sustainability are equally pivotal in determining cement quality, strength development and environmental performance.

This article reviews cutting-edge developments in machinery, additives and digital process control.
