Sulfur concrete

One promising solution to the problem of industrial sulfur utilization, the annual global production of which amounts to dozens of millions of tons, is its use in sulfur concrete, or sulfurcrete. Sulfur con-crete is a thermoplastic material produced by mixing a sulfur-based binder (industrial sulfur stabilized with modifying additives) in a molten state with mineral fillers and aggregates. Upon cooling, the sul-fur - concrete mixture hardens and quickly gains strength. Abroad, particularly in the United States and Canada, sulfur concrete is used for industrial production of monolithic and precast elements used in chemical processes, transportation construction, and other industries. However, in many countries with abundant industrial sulfur reserves, this material has only limited application due to sulfur's flammability and a number of other factors.
