Phytogenic waste in cement concrete. Review
The article examines the potential use of plant-based waste in cement concrete. It is shown that these wastes are used in cement concrete in several ways: as a dispersion-reinforcing additive, an energy-efficient filler, an additive that regulates the rate and heat of cement hydration, and as a partial binder replacement. It was established that the addition of up to 2 % vol. of pre-treated natural fibers increases compressive and flexural strength, impact toughness, and improves thermal and sound insulation properties. The use of such wastes helps address environmental issues associated with their storage and disposal, reduce the carbon footprint of construction, decrease the consumption of natural resources, and promote sustainable development in the industry.
