Prospects for the use of Magnitogorsk blast furnace slag in building composites
The article discusses the prospects for using blast furnace slag (BS), stored in the dumps of the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, as part of building composites. The possibility to replace up to 25 % of the cement in the mortars for the studied BS without loss of grade strength has been demonstrated. The content of heavy metals and the radiation properties of BS were determined, and it was shown that they cannot affect the environmental safety of con-struction products containing the slag. The production of composites with the addition of the examined Magnitogorsk BS makes it possible to reduce the burden on the environment by reducing emissions into the atmosphere and freeing up areas occupied by dumps.
