Lucky Cement to Expand Karachi Plant Capacity

Pakistan-based Lucky Cement plans to increase the cement production capacity of its Karachi plant by 3.2 million tonnes per year. The new production line is scheduled to come on stream in December 2027.

Following the expansion, the company’s total cement production capacity in Pakistan will reach 18.8 million tonnes per year.

According to the company, investment in the production expansion and additional renewable energy projects will amount to at least PKR 50 billion. The new production line will feature equipment incorporating Chinese and European technologies.

As part of the project, Lucky Cement also plans to increase the capacity of its wind power installations at the Karachi site from 28.5 MW to 51.3 MW. The company expects this to raise the share of renewable energy in its power mix from 51 % to 61 %.

The company intends to prioritise the domestic market, while identifying the United States and African countries as potential export destinations.
