2024 IEEE-IAS/PCA Cement Conference: Bringing Together Industry Leaders

The IEEE-IAS/PCA Cement Conference is the premier gathering for cement manufacturing experts. This year’s conference will take place from April 28 to May 2, 2024, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. As the only annual conference dedicated to the U.S. cement industry, it offers learning sessions, hands-on workshops, and networking opportunities. Now in its 66th year, the four-day event is expected to draw more than 1,000 attendees and 150+ exhibitors.

This year's conference features a full schedule of 15 technical paper presentations covering a variety of subjects such as automation, drives, EES, maintenance & safety, power generation, and more. Beyond the technical paper sessions, the 2024 IEEE-IAS/PCA Cement Conference offers further learning opportunities via roundtable discussions and process training modules. This year, three roundtable sessions are offered.

• Navigating New requirements for Sustainable Products in Bidding (Buy Clean/General Services Administration Requirements)
• Separating the Wheat from the Chaff - Evaluating New Carbon-Lowering Technologies for the Industry
• Diversity in the Cement Industry:

Process training modules provide further knowledge and development of methods and best practices at the cement plant. Topics for the Denver conference include:
• Lessons Learned from Risk and Technology Review (RTR)
• Blended Cements: Background and History of Type IL in the US and Experiences in Europe with PLC
• Overcoming Common Challenges and Good Solutions for Introducing Blended Cements Marketplace
• Cement 101 - Basics of Milling Systems
• System Design Considerations for Blended Cements (Milling)
• Cement 101 - Basics of Pyroprocessing Systems
• Strategies for Alternative Fuels

Featured Speakers
Keynote addresses will be given by Jim Abbott and Rob McCaffrey, who offer decades of combined experience, spanning from deep within the cement industry to the world of baseball and beyond. Born without a right hand, Jim Abbott overcame countless obstacles to excel in baseball. He played 10 seasons in Major League Baseball, including for the U.S. Gold Medal Olympic Team in 1988, and ended his career with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1999.
Fueled by his passion for geology, Rob McCaffrey co-founded Global Cement magazine in 1996 and now serves as Editorial Director. With more than 30 years of experience, McCaffrey has extensively analyzed and commented on the global cement industry. He has also spearheaded various specialized cement industry conferences, including CemFuels and the upcoming CemCCUS Conference in Oslo.

These keynote speakers will be joined by Ed Sullivan, PCA's Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of Market Intelligence, as he gives his spring economic forecast. Sullivan directs the Portland Cement Association’s forward market assessments that support the industry's planning efforts and market research. He is widely recognized as one of the most accurate construction economists in the country.

These opportunities and much more are available to attendees at the IEEE-IAS/PCA Cement Conference. For more information, visit https://portlandcement.swoogo.com/ieee-ias-pca-cementconference2024/4792033.

About the Conference
IEEE Industry Applications Society (IEEE-IAS) and the Portland Cement Association (PCA) are proud to be the organizing sponsors of the 2024 IEEE-IAS/PCA Cement Conference. IEEE IAS is a volunteer-driven organization for engineering professionals looking to advance the theory and practice of electrical and electronic systems. PCA is the premier policy, research, education, and market intelligence organization serving America’s cement manufacturers.

The first conference was in 1959 in Allentown, PA, with 298 registrants. The marriage of the cement industry technical conference with a cement plant tour was inaugurated at the first conference by tours of Whitehall Cement and Traylor Engineering. Plant tours continue to be a feature of the conference when feasible.
