The Rohrdorf group of companies intends to produce CO2 -neutral cement by 2038. In order for this goal to be achieved, the electricity supply must come from 100% renewable energies. Carbon Upcycling’s patented technology injects CO₂ into industrial byproducts and natural minerals to create clinker substitutes, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of cement.

Sustainable building solutions leader Lafarge Canada, a member of Holcim Group, announced its conversion to the production of 100% ECOPlanet cement at its Richmond Cement Plant. ECOPlanet, Holcim’s brand of low-carbon cement, offers a minimum 30% reduction in CO2 emissions per tonne in comparison to ordinary portland cement.

National Bureau of Statistics of China has published the report of national economy development in June, among which the production of cement has reached 185.03 Mt with a year-on-year decrease of 1.5 %, while the output during January and June has reached 953.0 Mt with a year-on-year growth of 1.3 %.
