Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, an autonomous region of Iraq, laid the foundation stone of a cement factory in the capital city of the Kurdistan region, Erbil.

The Rohrdorf group of companies intends to produce CO2 -neutral cement by 2038. In order for this goal to be achieved, the electricity supply must come from 100% renewable energies. In order to increase the pace of the switch to renewables and to achieve the highest possible degree of energy self-sufficiency, Rohrdorfer is pursuing ambitious expansion plans with the "Initiative 3033". By 2033, 30 % of the electricity required should be self-produced.

Sustainable building solutions leader Lafarge Canada, a member of Holcim Group, announced its conversion to the production of 100% ECOPlanet cement at its Richmond Cement Plant. ECOPlanet, Holcim’s brand of low-carbon cement, offers a minimum 30% reduction in CO2 emissions per tonne in comparison to ordinary portland cement.

Nepal exported cements worth Rs 779.30 million in the last fiscal year, thanks to the government providing cash subsidy on export of the product.  
After an unstable first half for the Brazilian economy marked by high interest rates, high debt and family defaults, cement sales accumulated a 1.8% drop compared to the same period of 2022 with the sale of 30.3 million tons in the first six months of the year.
