Japanese Cement Manufacturer Inaugurates PHP12.8 Billion Plant In Cebu

Japanese cement manufacturer Taiheiyo Cement Philippines, Inc. (TCPI) inaugurated its PHP12.8 billion plant in San Fernando, Cebu that will boost the local production and reduce the country’s reliance on imports.

On Friday, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said Secretary Alfredo Pascual graced the inauguration of TCPI’s new facility on July 18.

“Taiheiyo’s new plant in San Fernando, Cebu will bolster the Philippines’ cement production by 3 million tons annually, reducing our reliance on imports. This investment aligns perfectly with our government’s Build Better More infrastructure program,” Pascual said.

The new plant introduces energy-efficient operations, reducing 10 percent carbon dioxide emissions compared to the emissions from clinker production on its old line.

“We commend TCPI for setting a new standard for environmentally responsible manufacturing in the cement industry. This advanced technology is set to reduce carbon dioxide emissions significantly. Taiheiyo’s San Fernando plant contributes to a greener future for our world,” Pascual added.

TCPI’s PHP12.8-billion investments are on top of its PHP3.1-billion investments for Jetty and Marine Belt Conveyor project, PHP1.4 billion for the port area, and PHP3.7 billion for the Luzon Distribution Terminal Project, the DTI said.
