Nuvoco Vistas leads the way in sustainable cement manufacturing with alternative fuels

Nuvoco Vistas Corp. Ltd., a cement group in India, has successfully completed its Alternative Fuel Resource (AFR) project at Risda Cement Plant (RCP) in Chhattisgarh and Nimbol Cement Plant (NCP) in Rajasthan. By incorporating alternative fuels, the company aims to minimise environmental impact and decrease the usage of traditional fossil fuels.

The use of alternative fuels is a crucial step in reducing carbon emissions and addressing climate change. Nuvoco has installed a dedicated system capable of utilising various sources such as agricultural waste, RDF (Refused Derived Fuel), plastic waste, municipal waste, biomass, and tyre chips. By integrating these alternative fuels into its manufacturing process, Nuvoco is making significant progress toward its sustainability goals.

Nuvoco has implemented an AFR feeding system into the Pyro-process system, ensuring uniform feeding and incorporating necessary safety interlocks throughout. This allows the company to efficiently consume alternative fuels while adhering to the environmental standards set by the Pollution Control Board of India.

Mr. Jayakumar Krishnaswamy, Managing Director of Nuvoco, stated that as part of our “Protect our Planet” agenda, the successful completion of this project showcases the company’s dedication to reducing carbon emissions, maximising waste consumption, and practicing responsible resource management.

He further highlighted that the adoption of alternative fuels contributes to resolving issues related to landfills and unhygienic waste accumulation. For example, Nuvoco utilises harmful waste such as plastic waste, RDF, and municipal waste in its cement manufacturing process, which would otherwise pose risks to wildlife and livestock due to their carcinogenic qualities.
