Russian universities need IT- construction training departments

IT-departments in specialized universities should help construction industry specialists with Russian software skills, said Mikhail Viktorov, the President of the National Association of Organizations in the Field of Building Information Model.

According to him, BIM-managers, BIM-coordinators, BIM-designers and Production and Technical Department engineers with BIM skills are now required.

In March 2021, the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree that from 1 January 2022 establishes the mandatory application of BIM at all stages of the life cycle of social, cultural, sports and educational facilities funded from the state budget.

The transition of the entire industry to BIM was to begin on 1 January 2023. However, the industry was not ready for this. The next deadline is 1 July 2024.

BIM involves the creation of a 3D computer model of a future object, containing all the necessary information about it. Building information modelling allows creating three-dimensional virtual models of any building, in which each element has specific properties.
