Chilean utility Colbun is assembling a 9.9-MWp captive solar photovoltaic plant for building materials company Polpaico Soluciones to turn its Cerro Blanco cement factory in Chile’s Santiago Metropolitan Region into a renewables prosumer.
Colbun and Polpaico Soluciones announced the initiative on Tuesday, hailing it as the largest solar self-consumption project in Chile.
The Cerro Blanco solar farm will occupy 12 hectares (29.7 acres) in the Tiltil commune. It will consist of 15,000 bifacial solar modules mounted on trackers for optimal power generation, with a production output estimated at approximately 21.5 GWh per year.
Colbun’s energy services unit Colbun Soluciones by Efizity is in charge of construction and operation of the solar farm. The companies expect the self-consumption system to commence operation during the first half of 2024.
