Sri Lanka will start using Russian waste management technologies

The Russian environmental operator (REO) held a working meeting with the Sri Lankan delegation headed by the Plenipotentiary Minister of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia.

The Russian side presented a concept for building a modern waste management system adapted to the needs of megaprojects such as Port City Colombo.

"The Russian environmental operator is actively sharing its best practices and technologies with international partners. Our experience in the field of landfill sorting, recycling and reclamation has already proved its effectiveness in Russia and can become the basis of a sustainable environmental infrastructure in other countries. We are ready for cooperation and joint projects with Sri Lanka," the press service of REO reported.

In the capital of Sri Lanka, the city of Colombo, a large-scale infrastructure project is planned — the construction of an artificial island Port City Colombo. A port, residential areas, industrial technology parks, downtown area and other facilities will appear on its territory. During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of Russian waste management solutions at all stages of the project. Sri Lanka has expressed interest in using Russian technologies and approaches, from sorting and recycling to industry regulation.

The Sri Lankan delegation looks forward to continuing cooperation with the Russian side and launching pilot initiatives in the field of waste management.
