Votorantim Cimentos has announced an investment of BRL 260m to expand its cement plant in Xambioá, Tocantins, Brazil. The project includes the construction of a new cement grinding line, which will increase the plant's production capacity by 500,000tpa to 1.5Mta. The new line is scheduled to begin operations in July 2028.
The investment is part of the company's BRL 5bn investment programme for 2024-2028, aimed at increasing production capacity, improving operational competitiveness, expanding the use of alternative fuels and reducing CO₂ emissions across its Brazilian operations. According to the company, BRL3.1bn of the programme is already under implementation.
The expansion will be carried out alongside the ongoing modernisation of the plant's clinker kiln and the development of lower-carbon cement technologies. Votorantim Cimentos is also studying a future doubling of clinker production capacity at the site by 2030, as well as an expansion of its agricultural limestone business.
