Properties of cement-based composites with nano-sized titanium dioxide

The use of nano-sized TiO2 in cement composites have became popular in last decades due to its ability to decompose organic compounds by photocatalytic reaction. The aim of this paper was to find the best way how to implement TiO2 into cement-based composite structure and how to measure properties of such composites. Two different ways of addition were chosen: 1. blend of cement and TiO2 in dry mix, 2. addition to dry mix in form of water-defloculant-TiO2 solution. Based on analytical methods pros-and-cons of each way are described in the paper. Strength development, calorimetrical, rheological and phase composition tests were conducted. Effect of two different ways of TiO2 addition on visual properties of thin-walled fiber-cement composite was evaluated.
