Optimization of the clinker cooling process in a grate cooler

Experimental equations were developed of dependence of the heat conduction coefficient on the temperature and porosity of the clinker granules and cooling time on their size and porosity. It was shown that the aerodynamic resistance of the same layer of clinker in the hot zone of the cooler is several times higher than that of the cold zone. It was established that for a clinker layer thickness which is twice the grate height the breaking of the clinker layer takes place: fine particles go down and large particles are forced to go up. In this case the cooling time of the coarse clinker in the cooler increases several times. The industrial tests of the «Volga-75» cooler have shown that with an increase in thickness of the clinker layer on a cold grate the cooler efficiency increases with associated reduction in the consumption of fuel and electric power.
