Reflections on process control systems of tomorrow.

The article reviews the process control systems that are used now and will be used in the near future. For new investments or expansion of the existing control systems, the author considers it expedient to make use of the program components currently accessible and widespread on the market.
The article describes the computer-based control system of POLCID® NT developed by Polysius and representing a component of the system offered by that company for automation of cement plants. An example of upgrading a control system of a cement production line is described. It is shown that the means of automatic transformation of control systems, which the company has at its disposal, enable it to upgrade such systems within a very short time.
