Mineral binders for soil stabilization

The foundations of the technology for soil stabilization with mineral binders are described. Its advantages include reducing the cost of building roads and increasing the pace of construction, extending the life of roads without major repairs, etc. LafargeHolcim (Russia) in 2016 conducted the first stage of research on the effectiveness of mineral binders of various compositions for soil reinforcement. Physical and mechanical properties of soils and binders for their stabilization, the effect of the composition and properties of binders on the characteristics of the soil - binder system, the influence of soil properties on the binder efficacy were identified. Based on the results obtained, a preliminary product portfolio was formed (including hydraulic binders and Portland cement compositions with complex mineral components), and recommendations were developed for choosing the optimum solution for the soil - binder system and for the overall pavement design. For the production of complex mineral binders, it is planned, together with the experts from the Moscow State Automobile and Road Technical University (MADI), to develop an organization standard (STO) regulating the technical specifications for reinforced soils, production technology and quality control at the construction site.
