Adani to invest USD 26m in new cement plant in Kharagpur

Adani Group will invest more than USD 26 million in the construction of a new cement plant in Kharagpur, West Bengal. The facility will have a production capacity of 5 million tonnes of cement per year, with operations targeted to begin by 2028.

The project represents a new greenfield development and revives an ACC initiative originally proposed in 2012 but later stalled. Following Adani Group’s acquisition of ACC in 2023, the company reapplied for the land and revived the project.

According to available reports, the project site will cover between 80 and 198 acres, while the scale of investment indicates the development of a grinding plant.

The original ACC proposal lapsed after construction failed to begin within five years of the application. The revival of the initiative forms part of Adani’s broader expansion strategy in eastern India. The group has also invested in upgrades at its Farakka and Sankrail plants, increasing their capacities to 5.6Mt and 4.2Mt respectively.

The new plant is expected to strengthen Adani’s position in eastern India, particularly in West Bengal, while supporting cement demand across eastern and northeastern states and reducing reliance on external supply.
