BirlaNu announces new fibre cement plant in India

BirlaNu, building materials producer (part of the CKA Birla Group), announced the establishment of a new Fibre Cement Board Plant in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district. The greenfield project is a major step in the company’s expansion strategy and is supported by the state’s industrial ecosystem.

The facility is designed as a modern unit based on advanced and sustainable manufacturing practices and is expected to boost regional economic development.

Managing Director and CEO Akshat Seth said the plant will expand BirlaNu’s manufacturing footprint, meet rising domestic and global demand for building materials, and create new employment opportunities.

In Phase 1, the company will invest about 1 billon INR and create nearly 600 direct and indirect jobs. This will be the first large-scale Fibre Cement Board unit in Andhra Pradesh and will also serve export markets. The plant will use fly ash from coal-based thermal power plants as a key raw material.

The project is expected to support the growth of ancillary industries. In Phase 2, BirlaNu plans to add units for PVC Pipes & Fittings and Construction Chemicals.
