CEMROS has begun works on major overhaul of a motorway in Ust-Labinsk, Krasnodar Region, using cold recycling technology.
The construction is being carried out in two stages. First, a road base will be created using cold recycling technology. Then a layer of concrete will be laid on top as a road surface. The total volume of cement will be 1,400 tonnes, which will be supplied by CEMROS plants in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic and Belgorod Region.
The 1.7 kilometre long road with cement concrete pavement will be the first in the Krasnodar Region to be built using this technology. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. In order to do this, more than 30 units of technical equipment will be engaged on site.
‘The first concrete road in Kuban has an experimental status for us. We will check how cement concrete pavements behave in the conditions of Kuban summer and winter under different operating conditions. We will make sure that there are no ruts. The obtained data will be used in the design and construction of similar roads in the future,’ says Nikolay Goretyi, General Director of Glavstroy-Ust-Labinsk.
According to him, the use of cement in road construction allows increasing the durability and safety of roads, as well as reducing the cost of their repair.
‘Nevertheless, in Russia, construction of roads with cement concrete pavement is almost never implemented due to the road builders’ wary attitude towards them and the established practice of working with asphalt. At the same time, concrete roads are actively built in the USA, China and Europe. Our neighbours in the Republic of Belarus have very good experience in building such roads,’ Nikolay Gorety added.
CEMROS supports and develops advanced technologies of road construction and repair. Among them are soil reinforcement with the help of complex mineral binder (CMB), cold recycling of the existing road surface, construction of concrete bases and cement concrete road surfaces.
The company also produces special types of cement and CMB used for construction of road and aerodrome pavements, facilities and elements of road infrastructure. In turn, the holding company's experts participate in the development of regulations and standards for road construction, as well as conduct analytical research into the use of cement in road construction.
