Gornozavodskcement has created oil-well cement with high sulfate resistance

The Perm Territory is one of the few regions of Russia, where all branches of the oil and gas industry are fully represented in the industrial potential.

Following the request of the region's oil production enterprises, using the capacities of its concrete laboratory, LLC Gornozavodskcement, a member of the AKKERMANN cement group of companies, has produced a special cement with high sulfate resistance for cement tamping wells, taking into account the peculiarities of the local soil. The company has experience in the production of sulfate-resistant cements for use in soils with highly aggressive environments. The development of oil-well cement for plugging wells became a challenge for the Gornozavodskcement team. As a result of long work on development of cement composition and production technology, as well as numerous industrial and laboratory tests, the Portland cement of high sulfate resistance (SS-1) PCT-I-G-CC-1 GOST 1581-2019 was produced, which fully meets the requirements of GOST 1581-2019 and internal requirements of the customers. In September, the oil-well cement successfully completed the procedure of quality verification in the Certifying Agency and received the Certificate of Compliance.

Oil-well cement, type G with high sulfate resistance, is technologically difficult to produce due to low content of alkali and aluminates. These compounds primarily cause the cement to break down, resulting in reduced durability. Ensuring stable characteristics of oil-well cement required significant investments in laboratory and technological equipment.

The specific feature of oil-well cement of G type is that it allows, when mixed with water and other additives, to obtain easily mobile and non-settling mixture in a certain temperature range, which over time turns into a stone-like solid. These mixtures, designed to fill cracks and voids, to consolidate unstable, crushed rocks and to prevent losses of flushing fluid during well drilling, are effectively used by Russian oil producing companies.
