German company Heidelberg Materials has agreed to acquire an additional stake in Turkish building materials producer Akçansa from Sabanci Holding, increasing its ownership to 79.44 %. The deal effectively gives the international group a controlling stake and reinforces its position in Turkey and the broader Mediterranean region.
Akçansa is one of the country’s leading cement producers, with an extensive production and logistics network, including ports and plants located in key economic regions. This positions the company as a critical hub for both domestic supply and export operations.
Heidelberg Materials expects that full consolidation will improve operational efficiency and expand export capacity, particularly to the Mediterranean, the Black Sea region, and the United States. The company also views Turkey as a strategic base for future growth, including potential participation in infrastructure and reconstruction projects in neighboring regions.
The transaction reflects ongoing consolidation trends in the global building materials industry, as international players seek greater control over strategically important production assets. The deal remains subject to regulatory approval.
