In 5M 2020, Georgia imported 102,200 tons of Turkish cement ($ 5.6 million worth). The volume of imports grew three times YoY in physical terms, and 2.7 times YoY in monetary value. The total volume of imported cement in Georgia in 5M 2020 decreased by 0.4 % YoY, to 224,600 tons.
The top three import partners of Georgia in January-May 2020 also included Azerbaijan and Iran. Azerbaijan exported 95,900 tons of cement to Georgia ($ 4.9 million worth), and Iran — 26,400 tons ($ 1.4 million worth).
From March 21 to May 22, a COVID-19 related lockdown was enforced in Georgia, and all construction projects were stopped. The gradual lifting of quarantine restrictions by the authorities began on April 27. In early May, construction companies were allowed to resume operations under the condition of strictly following the necessary health safety protocols.
