Italcementi invests in the resumption of full-cycle cement production at a plant in Italy

Italcementi, part of the HeidelbergCement holding, will reopen kiln line at the Sarche di Madruzzo cement plant in the province of Trento in northeastern Italy. With an investment of almost € 5 million, the company, which operates as a grinding plant, will resume full-cycle cement production from January 2022, increasing its production capacity to take advantage of the opportunities that will characterize the local market.

“On the part of Italcementi and HeidelbergCement Group, this is a choice made with great confidence in the potential of the Italian market,” comments Agostino Rizzo, Technical Director of Italcementi. “The Sarche di Madruzzo plant will have a production capacity of about 250 thousand tons of cement per year, as a result, a quality product made by local personnel from local raw materials will be available to our customers in the northeastern region of the country.”

The work aimed at reopening the kiln line will last until the end of 2021. In the meantime, a campaign will be launched to recruit 30 new workers to staff the plant to the level required for an integrated cement plant. Priority will be given to recruiting young people living in the area where the plant is located.

In accordance with the principles of sustainable development that Italcementi has followed over the years, great attention will be paid to environmental and landscape aspects. The cement plant will be equipped with the technologies necessary to ensure high environmental performance.

Sarche di Madruzzo products are currently used on several construction projects in the area of the plant, including the new Brenner railway tunnel, the Walther Park residential and commercial center in Bolzano and the Merano ring road.
