JK Group patterns with TARA to produce carbon-efficient cement

JK Lakshmi Cement to tie up with the Society for Technology and Action for Rural Advancement (TARA) to sign a long-term MoU to introduce the process of decarbonization in cement production, according to a statement issued by the JK Group.

The company said that with the collaboration, it is aiming to achieve its carbon neutrality target by 2047 through the production of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) and other technologies.

"This partnership will be a game-changer for the cement industry giving impetus to its efforts in mitigating emissions, combating climate change, and bringing a holistic change in the surrounding communities to create sustainable livelihoods in large numbers," the conglomerate said.

Limestone Calcined Clay Cement or LC3 is a new type of composite cement based on a blend of clinker, calcined clay, and raw limestone. Clinker content is as low as 50 per cent. LC3 technology has several advantages over Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Portland Pozzolanic Cement (PPC)

It reduces carbon emissions by up to 40 per cent in comparison to OPC due to lower energy requirements in its production.
