Kazakhstani Plants Set the Production Record of Portland Cement Since 2009

In October 2019, the monthly production volume of Portland cement by Kazakhstani plants reached 913,000 tons — the highest in the last decade. The information recently became available in the latest bulletin of the Kazakhstani Statistics Committee.

The production volumes used to fall by an average of 11.4% between September and October since 2009. According to state statistics, the production volume was partially preserved at the end of the season this year and fell by only 7.9%.

In ten months of 2019, the Kazakhstani factories produced 8.7 million tons of Portland cement and 6.4 million tons of cement clinker. In October 2018, these indicators were 8.8 million and 6.2 million tons, respectively.

The cement industry of the republic is represented by 17 integrated enterprises, with three of them belonging to HeidelbergCement, the German holding company. The newest cement plant with an annual capacity of 1 million tons of Portland cement — an investment project of the China Gezhouba Group Cement — launched in late October this year in the Shieli district of the Kyzylorda region.

The total export of Kazakhstan cement enterprises in Jan-Sep 2019 decreased by 9.1% compared to the first nine months of 2018: from 1.45 million to 1.32 million tons. Imports, on the other hand, increased by 0.5%: up to 725.5 thousand tons. At the same time, compared to last year (according to the bulletins of Investments and construction statistics) the volume of construction work in the republic just in H1 2019 increased by 1.1 million m2 (26%).
